BARTON CHEMICALS' VALET COURSE INFORMATION
Valeter/s will be shown correct way of valeting vehicle from interior to exterior as follows below.
They will also be shown basic health and safety regarding use of Barton Chemicals Ltd cleaning products and machines.
On completing the course they will be given a certificate stating that they have been trained as a professional valeter, with knowledge of health and safety and proper use of machines e.g. odour fogger, buffing machine etc.
   

INTERIOR

VALET GUIDE

           

  1a. ENGINE BAY
      With Pressure/Steam Cleaner

Protect any electrical components with cling-film. With the steam cleaner temperature set at 90ºc and the chemical set at 2%, apply Traffic Film Remover to the engine and inner wings, not forgetting the underneath of the bonnet. Loosen any stubborn dirt or oil with a brush and close the bonnet.

   1b. ENGINE BAY
      By Hand

Protect electrical components with cling film. Apply Concentrated Degreaser via pressure spray to engine and inner wings, not forgetting the underneath of the bonnet. Loosen any stubborn dirt or oil with a brush and close the bonnet.

  2a. BODY WASHING/LEATHERING
      With Pressure/Steam Cleaner

Leaving the steam cleaner on the same settings, apply chemical to wheels and wheel arches. Starting from the bottom working upwards cover the whole vehicle. Switch the chemical off. Open the bonnet and rinse with clean water starting with underneath the bonnet followed by the engine and inner wings, close the bonnet and continue rinsing the vehicle starting from the top and rinsing downwards not forgetting door shuts and wheel arches. Pressure clean the wheels to remove any dirt and brake dust. Chamois dry the paint work.

  2b. BODY WASHING/LEATHERING
      By Hand

Wet the whole vehicle with clean water, apply Car Shampoo with a sponge or washing brush to the body work starting from the bottom working upwards not forgetting the wheels and wheel arches. Open the bonnet and rinse with clean water starting with underneath the bonnet followed by the engine and inner wings, close the bonnet. Continue rinsing the vehicle starting from the top and work downwards not forgetting door shuts and wheel arches. Chamois dry the paint work.

2. Car Shampoo + Wax * ^

* For ‘Wash n Wax’ options only

3. WHEELS
Apply Wheel Cleaner via a Trigger Spray to the complete wheel. Agitate with a stiff nylon or plastic brush to remove stubborn dirt and brake dust. (Do not use metal objects as this may damage the wheel). Leave to activate but do not allow to dry. Rinse with clean water. Always test a small area to insure wheel are suitable.

  4. INTERIOR CLEANING
Remove floor mats, seat covers, ashtray, spare wheel from the luggage compartment and any other objects from the car. Vacuum the car. Using a small soft brush clean air vents, with very dirty ones you may need to turn the fan on. Apply Spotting Solvent to a cloth and wipe away any oil or grease stains from upholstery and carpets.

Clean headlining, cloth door panels and upholstery with an interior valeting machine not forgetting the sun visors and luggage compartment. Apply General Purpose Cleaner to all plastic surfaces via a Trigger Spray and wipe clean with a dry cloth. Clean rubber floor mats with the pressure cleaner and wash the ashtray.

Chemical Options
1. Heavy Duty Upholstery Cleaner through valeting machine. Citrus Air Freshener or Concentrated De-odoriser can be added to freshen interior and de-odorise bad smells i.e. dog odours.
2. General Purpose Cleaner can be used through handsprays for general cleaning.
3. Spotting Solvent to remove grease spots.
4. Foam Cleaner aerosol can be used if interior valeting machine is not available.
5. Fabric & Carpet Cleaner through valeting machine
6. Extraction Shampoo through valeting machine
 

     
 

5. TAR AND GLUE REMOVAL
Remove any unwanted stickers with a hot air gun. Apply Tar and Glue Remover to tar spots and left over glue patches. Wipe clean with a dry clean cloth, or leave tar & glue remover on tar for 5 minutes then pressure spray off (NO NEED TO RUB!!)

6. POLISHING/PAINT RENOVATING
Apply Cutting Compound to badly faded or oxidised paint work with a clean cotton cloth in straight lines until oxidisation has been removed. Apply Barton Chemicals' Car Polish in straight lines to the whole of the vehicles bodywork using 100% cotton cloth in a pad the size of your hand (don’t use any old cloth as this may mark the painted surface) avoiding any grained plastic/rubber trims or bumpers and leave to dry..

1. Universal Polish - Cut & Polish
2. Supreme Polish - Superb shine
3. Reflect Polish - 0800 Micron Cut with good shine
4. Cutting compound - Medium cut ideal for buffing machines

 

     
 

7. DRESSING THE EXTERIOR TRIM
Apply dressing with a clean cloth to all plastic and rubber surfaces except tyres, this will also remove any polish, wipe any excess off with a dry cloth. Apply dressing to tyre walls with a brush or trigger spray avoiding tyre treads, wipe excess away with a clean dry cloth. Apply Barton Chemicals Plastic & Bumper Dressing to vinyl roofs.

Chemical Options
1. Plastic and Bumper Dressing to bumpers, wing mirror casings and vinyl roofs.
2. Bumper Dye to faded bumpers, wing mirror casings and wiper blades.
3. Apple Dressing aerosol spray to front radiator vents.
4. Coconut sheen on tyres, mud flaps etc.(do not put on tyre tread)
5. Engine & Plastic can also be used the same way as Coconut Sheen

 

     
 

8. DRESSING INTERIOR TRIM.
Apply Interior Dressing to all vinyl and plastic surfaces, remove excess with a clean dry cloth. Do not put products containing silicone onto the steering wheel, foot pedals or floor mats.

Chemical Options
1. Non-silicone Strawberry P.V.C Sheen
2. Strawberry P.V.C. Sheen - contains silicone
3. Vinyl Dressing- apply with cloth and buff to finish desired, lemon scent
4. Detergent rubbersheeen (spray on rubber floor mats and leave to dry) ~ silicone free
5. Use Tangerine or Apple aerosols for difficult cleaning areas i.e. air vents. Wipe with a clean dry cloth after spraying to remove excess. Contains silicone. Silicone free aerosols available

 

     
 

9. GLASS CLEANING EXTERIOR/INTERIOR
Lower the windows a few inches and apply Glass Polish with paper cloth to both sides of the windows, raise windows and apply polish to the rest of the glass. Apply Glass Polish to the front and rear screens inside and out using a wooden spatula wrapped in paper cloth to get into tight areas at the bottom of the screens. Don’t forget all mirrored surfaces including the vanity mirror, and allow to dry. Remove external Glass Polish first, followed by the inside polish.

3. Spray Glass - spray on and wipe off using paper cloth

 

     
 

10. REMOVAL OF BODY POLISH
Remove polish with a clean dry 100% cotton cloth in a pad the size of your hand using a sweeping motion, turning the cloth pad around at regular intervals. Once all the polish has been removed a final inspection of the vehicle's body work is required to remove any left over polish.

BARTON'S TIPS & TRICKS OF THE TRADE

Chewing Gum
A quick and inexpensive way of removing chewing gum is to pre spray with tar & glue remover, leave for five minutes then remove with cloth.

Chrome & Wheels
Polish chrome & wheels with a Glass polish for a smear free shine.

Removing Tar
For removing tar quickly from a vehicle exterior, simply pre-spray with tar & glue remover, leave for a couple of minutes then blast of with a hot pressure washer, no rubbing required ! (remember and never let tar & glue remover dry in).
